“Stories from the Home Front – Fernandina during World War II” explores how close the war came to our shores and how most citizens “served” by fighting the battle from here. Learn about Fernandina’s role in live fire artillery training, the oil tanker torpedoed just offshore by a German submarine, Nazi saboteurs who landed at Ponte Vedra Beach, Coast Guard patrols, nightly blackouts, townspeople manning watchtowers looking for enemy aircraft, aggressive, mandatory rationing of everyday necessities, and neighborhood recycling of civilian products needed for the war.

Attendance is free for members and a suggested donation of $5 for nonmembers. Seating is limited on a first come, first served basis. This program is wheelchair accessible.
