Exhibition - How Fossils Are Formed
Fossils are the preserved remains of plants and animals that lived at least 10,000 years ago. Body fossils show what kinds of life inhabited the Earth, and trace fossils, including tracks, trails, and burrows, indicate how these animals might have lived.
The plant fossil specimens displayed in this exhibit are examples of body fossils. They demonstrate the three different ways fossilization can occur: molds and casts, mineralization, and carbonization.
