On Saturday, August 2, meet the artists behind our current Sunroom Project Space installations. Take part in a special afternoon of artist-led conversations and creative workshops.
SuRan Song and William M. Weis III: Civil Trust
Diptych Workshop and conversation
12:00PM
Join the artists on the Glyndor Terrace Garden as they activate their sculpture You’re Soaking in It! with a workshop exploring civic trust, inspired by Justice Sotomayor’s recognition of the right to sleep in public and the Orphic philosophy of Parmenides. Song and Weis will lead visitors in creating artworks from recycled packaging inspired by conversation with the artists, their sculpture, and the surrounding garden.
Jennifer Tobias: Conversation and Corrugated Cardboard Bird Feeder Workshop
1:15PM
Join us in the Sun Porch for Jennifer Tobias' installation, Fish Tank, consisting of cardboard sculptures depicting human-fish hybrids inspired by the legacy of Bashford Dean, a former Wave Hill resident and expert in both body armor and prehistoric fish. The artist will discuss her work while leading a workshop in which participants of all ages are taught to make their very own cardboard bird feeders.
Monica Duncan: Plant Contouring Workshop: Embodying Plants through Movement
2:30PM
Close out the day with a conversation and plant contouring workshop by Monica Duncan whose video, sculpture, and performance-based Sunroom Project, Breathing as a stone, asks viewers to consider what it might feel like to embody a rocky habitat. In Duncan’s workshop, participants will spend time observing the flora of Wave Hill through contour line drawings that will then be used as maps for movement. They will then have an opportunity to share their movement drawings, embody plant forms, and create collective plant choreographies in the garden.
