The Original Gullah Festival of South Carolina, Inc. values education, family and so much more. We want our visitors to learn about the Gullah culture so they can it with others. That's why Lest We Forget is such an important part of the festival.

This is a walk-through educational platform offering the history, customs and culture of Gullah. This event takes place on Friday and Saturday of the Festival weekend from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Lest We Forget
This is a walk-through experience offering the history, customs and culture of Gullah.
Location: Tabernacle Baptist Church

11-12:30pm: Gullah Shekere Instrument Workshop
Participants will learn the art of crafting their very own She'ke're instrument, which is theirs to keep and show off throughout the festival and for years to come.
Location: Gullah Village - Workshop Area A

11-12:30pm: African American Quilt Making Workshop
Participants will learn basic quilt-making skills and depart with the beginning of their personal Gullah-Geechee Quilt. We hope you complete your quilt at home and proudly display your keepsake.

1-2:30: Sweetgrass Basket Weaving Workshop
Workshop participants will learn the techniques of Gullah sweetgrass basket weaving. Facilitator: Mary Graham Grant
Location: Gullah Village - Workshop Area A

1-2:30: Drumming Workshop Friday
Each workshop participant will engage in hands-on drumming and learn a brief history about drums. Facilitator: Samuel Jones
