Throughout music history, certain composers have always dared to challenge the status quo. Some, like Debussy, expanded the boundaries of harmony, rhythm, and tonality; others, like Dvořák, found inspiration in folk music; still others, like Clara Schumann, composed despite societal pressures that sought to limit them. And in recent years, some have composed with social agenda. Our program begins with 21st-century composers Fredrik Österling and Halldór Smárason, who crafted music that resonates deeply with the human spirit. These contemporary works are paired with pieces by Debussy, Dvořák, and Clara Schumann.
Musicians: Tyler Michael James, cello; Thomas Cooper, violin; Colin Levin, baritone; Loren Lee, violin; and Craig W. Combs (piano).
