Teen Studio: Quilting And Spray Painting

Saturday, Mar 30, 2024 from 12:30pm to 3:30pm
Kala Art Gallery
2990 San Pablo Avenue
510-549-2977

In this intensive workshop, we will ask how quilts can be seen as books. Using inspiration from The Embodied Press (recent exhibition at Kala), graphic novels, old quilts, and our own lives, we will design and create quilts using fabric spray paint and stencils. We will finish these personal quilts over three sessions. Join us at Kala and create dynamic works of art while diving into the creative process!

Session One:  Review / Who is this for?
- The Embodied Press images, graphic novel examples, and old quilts.
- Hands-on: Divide quilt tops into “pages” and spray paint background/scenery

Session Two: Stencil Work
- Design & create quilt pages using spray paint
- Optional: Text, and incorporate personal fabric

Session Three & Four: Quilting Bee
- Learn how to tie your quilt and complete the project

All levels are welcome. Differentiated instruction is provided to meet each student’s interests, needs, and strengths.
