History

Art Center on AlisterThe Art Center was formed in 1995 by a small group of artists who wanted to provide a place where artists and art lovers could gather to encourage, educate and support each other in a pleasant gallery and classroom setting where fine art could be produced and presented for sale.

The Art Center soon outgrew the small gallery and classroom space, and moved to the current 2400 sq-ft location on Alister.

Since being formed, the Art Center has grown both in activities, exhibits and community interest. The Art Center has more than 400 members, and of these, more than 225 are artist-menbers who show their work at the Center. Numerous area businesses and individuals participate as event sponsors.

Our Vision for the Future

To expand

An innovative place with a village atmosphere for artists and art lovers of all ages to expand and nurture their creative processes.

To enhance

A larger and more versatile Art Center with expanded gallery and classroom space to provide additional art education for all ages and to display art work by a wider range of artists.

To provide

More classroom space, especially for pottery, with a separate kiln house, plus offering instructional facilities for photographers, printmakers, basket makers, fine jewelry makers, marine life artists, and more.

To celebrate

A permanent home for activities that have become a part of the fabric of Port Aransas, such as First Friday Receptions, student art shows, youth camps, PA ART ABOUT and Art Fiesta.

To attract

Nationally known artists to conduct workshops with ample space to accommodate their larger audience. These students would come from all across the nation to gain knowledge from these accomplished instructors, who would enhance and inspire their artistic abilities.
