Our History

We started Rocky Peak Productions (RPP) in 2003 as three local bicycle enthusiasts attempting to make a living doing what we love; riding bikes and hosting events to encourage and invite riders of all levels to join in the fun.  In 2005 we resurrected a long distance, non-competitive road ride known as the Tour de Steamboat. This local road bike event started in the late 1970’s with bike building legend (and my husband), Kent Eriksen, as a century road ride amongst local friends and riders.  In 2005, the Tour hosted 150 riders and celebrated the success over a keg of beer and a basket of Double Z BBQ.

Today, the Tour de Steamboat boasts the same vintage style with some refined conveniences including stocked aid stations, more cowbells, and one heck of a grand finale BBQ party with beer, swag and drawings. Our beneficiaries are all local organizations and charities who will benefit from participants like you. All (100%) of proceeds will be split equally among our beneficiaries who continue the gift of giving and choose a 5th beneficiary to donate a small portion to.

We have since have established an official Steering Committee, added online registration, routes of 26, 46, 66 miles, and of course the legendary 110 mile ride! A local park welcomes riders home to a post-ride BBQ, filled with 10 kegs of New Belgium’s finest, live music and plenty of delicious food to refuel the riders, fans and volunteers.

Our original mission to make a living and produce cycling events by cyclists, for cyclists has changed dramatically. As our little event has grown considerably we, now as unpaid volunteers and directors, see the main focus of our event as a catalyst to make change, to make an impact and to do something for our community. We hope you will join us in 2017 for our 13th year! By participating in the Tour de Steamboat ride you are a part of the change, the energy and the fun!
