72-acre Waterfront Park. This sprawling urban park sits on the Ohio River, with the eastern half featuring fountains that have become a popular swimming spot. Further west, there are two expansive lawns and a small series of docks for boats, the Children's Play Area and the Adventure Playground. The park also holds Slugger Field, home of the Louisville Bats and one of the most exciting and attractive sites in minor league baseball, and also sits adjacent to Louisville's wharf and Riverfront Plaza. The park is heavily used on a daily basis, and averages more than 1.5 million risitors per year. Waterfront Park connects to the Riverwalk via the Belvedere, and may eventually be part of an effort to create a long mixed use trail around the entire city of Louisville.
